KSMA is proud to highlight the accomplishments of its members and others who have contributed to the field of school library media by giving the following awards and recognition.
Each committee receives the award nomination forms, and then presents their recommendations to the KSMA Board for approval in the spring. The awards are given at the annual banquet during the Fall Conference. The nomination forms are published yearly in the KSMA Directory and can be obtained from this web site.
KSMA Service Award for School
Administrators
The KSMA Service Award for School Administrators is given each year to either
a elementary, middle or high school principal who has made outstanding
contributions to the schools library media program. The nominator must
substantiate that the administrator is an advocate for library media programs
and that this individuals philosophy supports the central role of library
media professionals in developing effective school library media programs.
Outstanding School Media Librarian
The KSMA Outstanding School Media Librarian award is given to a professional
of excellence; one who provides an outstanding media program, serves her
local and state organization, and makes significant contributions to his/her
profession.
Jesse Stuart Media Award
The Jesse Stuart Media Award honors those individuals and/or organizations
who have made major contributions in the field of media.
KSMA Award of Merit
The KSMA Award of Merit honors those who through individual leadership have
advocated effective school library media services in meaningful educational
programs. It also recognizes the responsible and influential role of those
other than the local school building administrator in developing successful
school library media programs.
Donna Hornsby Joint Technology
Project Award
The Donna Hornsby Joint Technology Project Award honors the memory
of our colleague, Donna Hornsby, who passed away in 1999. Donna was instrumental
in promoting the use of technology to enhance student learning. This award
recognizes two or more individuals in a school for their innovative use of
library media center technology to enhance classroom curriculum.
The KSMA Student Technology Award is given to an outstanding Kentucky school student (grades K-12) who has demonstrated leadership through technology activities coordinated with the school curriculum.
The Outstanding School Library Web Site Award recognizes excellence in web site design and it's contribution to the instruction of students.
KSMA supports and encourages its members to submit applications to regional
and national awards such as the above.
American Association of School Librarians
also provides opportunities for awards.
